One of the things I like to do quite often on my iPhone is catch up with all the latest in tech, through famous blogs, including engadget, gizmodo, and techcrunch. As you may, or may not, know, these websites have specific RSS URLs that you can use in your favorite RSS client and easily view all the latest articles. Newsrack for iPhone takes these RSS feeds and organizes it in a fantastic way that provides a wonderful user experiencem, for $4.99. Is it worth the price? Keep reading!

Newsrack for iPhone is an excellent RSS reader, with gorgeous graphics. There are multiple ways to read the different articles as well, giving the end-user some choice, something I really like to see from developers. Now, to the video review.

Omegle is the perfect solution for anybody who is bored – it puts you in a private chatroom with a random person (that you don’t know). Apps with new, totally original ideas in the App Store are a rare occurrence. Most apps you’ll find have a number of other apps doing the similar, or even the exact same thing. This isn’t exactly a bad thing; similar apps create competition and the consumer has a variety of choices to find their perfect app. Mega Jump is an unoriginal, copycat game to apps like Doodle Jump or Papi Jump. Are you like me, one who enjoys those classic parking games? Looking to take it on the go? Parking Mayhem for iPhone does just that. It features an abundance of maps, each with increasing difficulty. The best part? This app is only 99 cents! There’s also a lite version available so you can try it out and get an understanding of the game concept before purchasing it. Video Review below!

Often, I get bored of the FPS or racing games that I frequently play on my iPhone. I decided to try a new genre of games, Tower Defense. This genre is known to be quite addictive, and so I had a go at it. I heard some great things about Fieldrunners for iPhone, and hence, gave it a shot. Keep reading to see my full thoughts on this $2.99 game.

As you’ve probably noticed by now, Fieldrunners for iPhone is a tower defense game. It’ll run you about $3, which is a steep for a game as such. I’ll be touching on this later in the article.

The objective of the game is to keep little men, called Fieldrunners, from reaching the other side of the map. This may sound like an easy task, but I assure you – it is definitely not! The men come in different shapes and sizes. Some are skinny, some are bulky. The larger they are, the more health they have, making it harder to kill them.

The enemy can come in various machinery as well, such as helicopters, tanks, and motorcycles. These obviously have much more health than the other forms they come in. One tactic you can use it to block their way – this makes it so they have to walk around your turrets. An example of this is seen in the screenshot above. This will delay the time taken for them to reach the end, giving you an opportunity to take them out before they do so.

You are given several lives, and a set amount of money when you first start the game. There are three total maps that come included in the $2.99 price tag, but there are an additional two that you can buy if you wish through in-app purchase.

During the game, you are free to pause whenever you wish, giving you sufficient time to lay your turrets where ever you want them. Also, you can upgrade your turrets, giving it more power, or sell it. There are four different weapons you can use. There’s one that fires normally, there’s one that slows them down, there’s a rocket launcher, and the last one is an immensely powerful thunderbolt.

An additional way to have fun, or make the game easier for you, is if you install a patch for this game. This is currently only available for jailbroken iPhone/iPod users, and lets you start the game off with $15,000, as well as 99 lives. This is cheating, and, in my opinion, takes away from some of the fun of the game. Anyways, it’s up to the player, as to how they think of it. If you don’t want it, simply don’t install the patch from cydia.

In a nutshell, Fieldrunners for iPhone is a solid game, however, a bit pricey if you take the price ($2.99) and genre into consideration. At 99 cents, it’s a great buy, but at the current price, we feel that is not the best for your money. However, if you have some spare iTunes cash, definitely go for this game, it’s incredibly fun and addictive. There’s even an iPad version at $7.99.

Recently, I was at school and noticed a friend of mine playing a game with great enthusiasm. He showed me the game he was playing – Fruit Ninja for iPhone, and recommended it to me. I immediately bought it there and then, and have had an immense amount of fun, something not expected from a game as such, especially at a mere 99 cents. In fact, I enjoyed the application so much, that I decided to show this app to you guys.

The objective of the game, as hinted by the name, is to slice a variety of fruit. However, it is not as simple as it may seem. I’ll talk about how the developer introduced some challenges a little bit later in the review.

As mentioned earlier, the objective of the game is to slice fruit. You rack up points as you go along, and it continuously gets more and more difficult as you go along. There are several ways you can lose. First off, you are given three “lives.” Basically, if you miss a fruit and it flys off the screen, you lose a life. Lose three and the game is over. However, you can earn back a life if you have lost it by doing very well for a specified amount of time.

Another way to lose the game is to slice a bomb, which occasionally flies onto the screen along with the fruit, which may confuse you and cause you to either lose the game (if you slice the bomb), or lose a life if you accidentally let a fruit fall back down without slicing it.

Point are kept as the amount of fruit continuously sliced without losing all three lives, or slicing a bomb, which immediately ends the game.

Like the game, the controls are very simple to use. To slice the fruits, you drag your finger, or multiple fingers, across the screen. This represents a knife, and in my opinion, Wolverine’s claws. As more and more fruit fly onto the screen, it’ll become much more difficult to slice all of them with only one finger. This is where the multiple fingers help. You can slice many more fruit with several fingers, or knives, going around the screen. However, the risk in using multiple fingers is the higher chance of slicing a bomb, which will end the game.

All in all, Fruit Ninja for iPhone is an incredibly entertaining game, especially for the price of 99 cents. The concept may seem silly at first, but if you actually buy the game and play it, you’ll instantly fall in love with it, as I did. It is definitely worth a look!

Orion Racer is a futuristic racing game for the iPhone and iPod Touch, similar to titles such as F-Zero and Wipeout. You hover around a skinny, looping track, traveling at extremely fast speeds and looking out onto a visually stunning environment with planets, stars and galaxies. But, it’s not just the visuals that are appealing, the game is complex and well built and you won’t be disappointed by this purchase of $2.99, currently on sale for $0.99. You won’t be able to truly experience Orion Racer until you try it, so at least download the lite version and get hooked first. Watch a review of the app below!
