OK, that is a title I never imagined myself writing, but you read it right. See below a video clip of a real-life elephant playing with the 5.3″ Galaxy Note.
Just a few weeks back Samsung announced they had sold two million Notes and now, they upped that number to five. Five million Galaxy Notes shipped, and that is just after five months. Not bad for an “awkward” device that no one wants…
For the sake of comparison, Samsung sold ten million SII devices in six months, so this number is a little lower, but again, the Note is not exactly your average smartphone so no one expected it to be a mainstream device. More on that here.
As TheVerge points out, Samsung’s numbers are of devices shipped, not sold to consumers, so the number of people with a 5.3″ phone stuck to their ear might be significantly lower.
Also, the Note is about to launch in Japan as an LTE phone, which should provide an additional bump in sales. Samsung has said they plan to hit the 10 million mark in 2012 and that is not too out of reach at this point.
I have been using the Note for months now and while it definitely took some time getting used to, Samsung is onto something here and you can expect to see more “phablets” on the market in the coming months and years, no question about it.
