Samsung Releases ChatON on iOS to Compete with iMessage, WhatsApp, and Many Others

By: Hillel Fuld

Back in August, we wrote about Samsung’s debut into the world of mobile messaging. Well, ChatOn is now available for iOS including support for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Of course, by releasing this app, Samsung is entering a very saturated market with tens of messaging apps out there including the pioneer, BBM, iMessage, WhatsApp, Kik, and many more.

ChatOn is now available on three platforms, Android, iOS, and Bada, and with Samsung’s market strength, you can be sure you will be seeing the app installed on a lot of Android devices in the near future.

Of course, I installed the app and had a whopping one contact using ChatOn, so I am not too excited about it. The ability to add/invite friends might be useful, although, it has to be done wisely.

The UI is fairly attractive and easy to use but I do not think I will be using ChatON instead of the other solutions that have been available for years. Why would I? To summarize, if I were Samsung, I would stick to hardware because when it comes to their software including their Android layer, Bada, and now ChatON, I have one word… “Yawn”.
