Google Updates iOS App and Brings the Mojo Back to iPad Search
By: Hillel Fuld
So if you read the title and still clicked through to read this post, you are either a true search geek or you are thinking “How is it even possible to make search sexy?” Well Google’s iOS Search app did just that, at least on the iPad. The app is not new, but it was hiding somewhere deep in the folders of my iPhone and iPad, and just got a fast track promotion to my home screen. The updated iPad app is that good.
What strikes me as fascinating is how opposed Apple is to developing apps for Android. Jobs said on many occasions that Google just ripped iOS off to create Android and he would do everything in his power to fight back. He also addressed the question of whether Apple would release apps for the competing OS and said, the only reason Apple would do such a thing is to make Android users happy and “We don’t want to make Android users happy”. OK, well THAT is pretty straight forward.
Well lucky for us, Google does not share Jobs’ and Apple’s close minded business strategies and actually caters to its users, even on a competing platform. One thing you will notice from the video below is that Google ads are getting better and at the risk of ruining the non-Apple-fanboy tone of this post, I might even go as far as to say, the ad below is very Apple-like. I mean that in the best of ways, Google, REALLY!
