What Goes Here: A New iPhone App That Combines Social Media, Interior Design, and Free Stuff!

When it comes to interior design, I am a total newbie. Show me a mobile app and I will design the heck out of it, but ask me what chair looks good in your living room and you will be met with a blank expression of ignorance.
So when I heard about this new iPhone app called “What Goes Here“, it struck a sensitive nerve and really spoke to me. The fact that it leverages my social streams and offers me free furniture, well that is just a nice perk. So how does this work?
The developers partner with various designers, in this case, Angelo Surmelis, and offer promotions to the users of What Goes Here. All you need to do is open the app, point your camera at a location in your home, the app then places the item in the photo in a very Augemented Reality-like way. Share the picture with the added furniture with your friends via email, Facebook, and Twitter. Your friends vote on the look of your new home arrangement, and you can win the actual product, in this case, the Angelo Home Chair. It’s as simple as that.
In addition, you can also browse other people’s entries and see how the furniture looks in their setting and vote in the app or on the Web. We have all heard of services that translate our virtual activity into real life benefits. Apps like Foursquare and others, only in this case, you are not getting a $4 cup of coffee, but rather an item of home decor that could cost up to thousands of dollars.
