MySpace for iPhone – A Great Discovery Tool

Once upon a time, in what seems like a long, long time ago, no one cared about Facebook. I know, you are shocked and don’t believe me but it is true. Myspace was once the number name in social networking and everyone seemed to have one.

Now look, Facebook has completely replaced Myspace and all other social networks in just about every category. Well, every category but one, music. Myspace may never be what it once was but now that it has shifted its focus to music and entertainment they have a real chance to be relevant again and one way to push that along is to update your iOS app. I hated the original Myspace app and deleted it after five minutes of it being on my iPhone.

The app was slow, clunky and lacking in functions. The new Myspace app however is fast, well designed and finally worthy of being on my iPhone and maybe even yours.

The first thing you will notice about the Myspace app now is the lack of blue in it’s design. The app, much like the website has been completely redesigned to be more streamlined and efficient. Instead of opening to a very awkward profile page you now launch to navigation screen very much like the Facebook navigation page.

From the home page you can quickly check your stream, friends, personal profile, mail, notifications and even chat. Posting in the new Myspace app reminds me a lot of the official Twitter app. You can add a picture or media file from your iPhone, take a picture and even choose to share your update on Facebook and Twitter.

Recently we have seen Gowalla incorporate Foursquare’s  API into there app and Myspace has chosen to do the same with Facebook and Twitter’s. If you can’t beat them join them seems to be the train of thought here. Another smart feature for Myspace is the ability to go to there other iOS apps directly from the Myspace app. Currently Myspace offers four other iOS apps and you can get a brief
description and link directly from the ”more apps” button.

Myspace will probably never be your number one Social Network choice but with a newly overhauled app it may still find a place on your iPhone. Check it out today in the app store for free, there’s nothing to lose.
