Wallabee: Travel Edition for iPhone App Review

The newest trend to sweep the mobile market is social check-ins. From Foursquare to Gowalla to Yelp to SCVNGR to the now defunct Brightkite smart phone users have lots of choices when it comes to how they share there location. Personally, I prefer Gowalla to all the rest because it turns checking into a fun activity more than the others.

Problem is though, if you go on a long outing all these apps eat away at your already limited iPhone battery life. If you use Gowalla as much as I do you may need to look into Wallabee Travel Edition for iPhone. Wallabee works by syncing your Gowalla account information with Wallabee who then checks in for you from their server leading to smaller and faster checkins.

This app is for hardcore Gowalla users. The app is designed to look like a field journal, bringing a very fun graph paper design to the
iPhone. Once you checkin to a spot it is crossed off your list and you can move on to the next. All of the features you want are there, Facebook and Twitter sharing, the ability to pick up items and notification of when you finish a trip.

The recently added Foursquare and Tumblr sharing options are currently not supported and after checking in with the developer I don’t believe they are coming any time soon. Wallabee allows for multiple accounts to be added to the app, a function that to be perfectly honest has no appeal to me but like most things I am sure someone somewhere has been longing for it so there it is!

Wallabee’s built in search and filter functionality work as fast as everything else on the app and in my area actually come up with more accurate locations than even the official Gowalla app. One more thing for user interface freaks like myself, the settings panel allows you to get rid of the handwriting inspired font for something a little more classy, the always awesome Helvetica.

Wallabee is small, powerful and maybe best of all free, so there’s nothing to lose, go download it now!
