The Cartographer for iPhone – A Gorgeous Way To Share Your Adventures
Check in apps are some my favorite apps on my iPhone. I use Facebook’s check-in platform, Gowalla, Foursquare and SCVNGR each for different reasons. Facebook and Foursquare have lots of deals, Gowalla and SCVNGR create fun social themed games through check ins but none of these apps allows you to create your own easily shareable journey. For those who travel often and want to share there journeys. The Cartographer for iPhone is here to fill the void. The Cartographer is beautiful, easy to use app that allows you to edit and share Google maps for any journey you may go on. The app also syncs brilliantly with Google Maps, allowing you to edit on the go in a easy and familiar way.
The first thing about this app that I really like is the ability to access your custom Google Maps offline. If you have ever traveled abroad you know how costly roaming charges can be. With The Cartographers offline feature you can create and layout your trip easily on your home computer, sync the app to Google Maps before you leave and than enjoy your trip knowing that the money you spend is going to things you like like great food and gifts for the family and not roaming charges.
While we’re talking offline mode, you can also use the apps built in notepad to research your trip knowing that this info will be with you at all times. Recently I visited the Dominican Republic and the whole time I was there I had to constantly use the resorts computer lab to search out the best tourists spots and transfer my notes I had emailed myself in advance. Had I had The Cartographer, I would have had more time at the beach and less time in a humid outdated computer lab and that I can definitely go for.
Another great feature of the app is the ability to add notes on the spots you visit. Traveling is a lot of trial by error and I find myself often returning to places feeling more secure from my previous experience.The problem is if you are like me you don’t always have a pen and paper available to write down all your findings and you forget the great tip you found before you get back. The Cartographer allows you to carry these notes imposed over your personalized info.
Lastly, The Cartographer allows you to share your trip with your friends via Email and Twitter bringing the social factor to your
fingertips.
