Paperless: Lists + Checklists for iPhone App Review

Sometimes I want an app to do one thing really well. Seems pretty obvious, right? Well, in the world of iPhone apps this seems like an art only reserved for the best of designers. I make a lot of check lists for the sake of keeping my life organized. Yes, the iPhone does have a nice note taking app that comes free with the phone, but to be honest I don’t want to have to pull up the keyboard every time I check something off.

Paperless for iPhone is the solution I have been looking for. The app is designed to do two things, make checklists and lists. In the process it makes them functional and form fitting for the iPhone, and in my opinion, this app should be on every iPhone, especially at only $1.99.

Paperless makes lists for anything. Grocery trips, reports, planning trips, whatever you need a list for. When you launch the app you are greeted with an empty holding area. To create a list you simply press the plus sign in the right hand corner. Next up, you can name your list, turn on the checklist functionality, choose if new items get bumped to the top and lastly choose the icon that is going to be associated with your list inside the app.

Paperless has a ton of icon choices for all your needs, last night I went to pick up some Chinese food and was happy to see a bowl of noodles icon to go with my list of meals for my family. I also shot a video for a project I have been working on and was able to give it its own identity with a camera icon.

Once you have decided what the list is for you save it. The next part of the process is simply adding the items to the list. With each addition of a task, you have the option to attach a note for more in depth information. I found this useful on my video shoot as a place to add where each item I need was coming from without crowding up the item itself. After you have added all the items to your custom list you can begin to check them off. Checking off is a simple as clicking the box located to the right of each item.

One nice feature built into the app is the ability to email the list once you have finished creating it or sending it out to see if people have or can help with some of the items you are missing. Paperless sends out beautifully formatted emails that are easy to read and also easy on the eyes.

Paperless for iPhone deserves a spot on your iPhone whether in the free version or the more function filled premium version that runs $2.99 in the app store.
