iPhone App Reviews : 3 Great NBC TV Sitcom Apps
I watch a lot more TV in the fall and winter months than in the spring and summer. Let’s face it – it gets cold out there, and this is the perfect time to catch up on missed episodes of 30 Rock, or to pull out some favorite DVDs and curl up with your favorite Friends for an afternoon.
I’ve recently discovered some of my favorite NBC sitcoms have their very own iPhone apps, so when you can’t get enough of Liz Lemon, Chandler Bing, or dancing like Elaine… you can stay connected with these iPhone apps.
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen the entire Friends series, which is why this app is one of my favorites. Considering the amount of Friends dialogue that makes it into our every day vernacular, it’s no surprise that this app includes over 2,000 questions, sorted by season and episodes.
Talk about a comprehensive trivia game! I’ll admit, I haven’t seen every single episode so you’ll probably beat my score here. However, for the truest of true Seinfeld fans, this quiz app has over 1,300 questions covering all of the seasons. Users can browse by season, read summaries of the seasons and episodes, and then take the trivia quiz.
As a recent 30 Rock addict (I caught up on all four DVD seasons on Netflix in about 8 weeks), I love this app (and I’m pretty good at it). The app includes themed puzzled including “What the What?”, “Mind Grapes,” “That’s a Dealbreaker!” and “Muffin Top.” It also plays just like the regular Scene It? board/DVD game – video clips, audio clips, and clever trivia questions from the show. There are 30 different games, and the app can also use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to connect up to 4 iOS devices if you want to play against your friends (iOS devices include iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad), and if that’s not enough, you can challenge your friends to beat your scores using Facebook Connect.
The app also plays the theme song, which is probably the best part of the whole thing.
So, when you’ve watched every single Friends DVD you own for the second time, and need just one more dose of Tracy Morgan after the Thursday night episode of 30 Rock, these apps are the perfect companions to some of TV’s funniest shows.
