Droplr for iPhone – A Sweet Alternative To Dropbox
Recently I have become a huge fan of Droplr. Droplr deems itself as the best way to share and files from your Mac on the internet. I have used Dropbox and Box.com and even though I do like these services I find them both lacking in the looks department and let’s face it, part of the reason we own Macs and iPhones is because we care about looks. Droplr for iPhone version is a whopping $3.99, even though it’s web version is free. It allows file sharing, picture sharing, note and code sharing, screenshot sharing all wrapped up in a nice 1 GB sized storage space.

As much as I love Droplr, I try not to exceed the $1.99 threshold on app pricing, but the more I played with the free desktop app, the more I wondered how it would translate to my iPhone, and if it could justify the $3.99 price tag. Here is what I found.
The first thing I noticed upon launching the app was how sharp it looked. The graphics are stunning and really drew me into wanting to
explore the app. The next thing I noticed was the app is simple. Here is the truth about iPhone apps, simple is good. When it comes to games there are many very in depth games that are quite complex but at the end of the day a nice looking simple to play game like Angry Birds is going to steal the show.
The desktop application is simple to use, you drag what you want to add to the menu bar droplet, wait a few seconds and like magic it is synced to your Droplr page and the iPhone app. The iPhone app also allows you to add and share files easily and affectively. You can upload images and videos directly from the camera app. You can also shorten links you typed or copied from any app. Along with that, you can create notes or paste copied text as a note.
Once you have uploaded some files, the real fun begins. Droplr allows you to share your files in a few different ways. You can email
straight from the app, or tweet out a shortened link. Droplr for iPhone also keeps track of how many times your shared link has been clicked, and displays it to the right of the file on the app.

I tweeted out a ringtone I made the other day to 5 of my friends, and was intrigued to find out that twenty seven people had clicked on the link. I am sure that this information could be very useful to a lot of different people. Droplr supports Twitter.com and a few iPhone twitter apps, like the extremely popular Twitter for iPhone. Another obvious feature is the ability to look through all your files, or “drops,” as Droplr calls them.
Droplr for iPhone is a gorgeous app that is feature packed. I know that $3.99 does seem a little steep, but after playing with the app I can’t imagine ever going back to another. A Droplr account is free and requires a free Twitter account to sign in. Check it out in the app store today!
