Week Calendar View for iOS
Have you ever been frustrated with the fact that iOS’s default Calendar application doesn’t have a week view? Look no further, for the small price of $1.99 you can add this functionality to your iPhone! Worried about it not interacting with your current synced services such as MobileMe or Google Sync? Don’t worry, it also utilizes your already syncing calendars. A new API in iOS 4 has the ability for third party applications to access native calendar data. The application is pretty basic, it provides a very minimalist week long calendar and offers very few settings to choose from.

It allows you to view your calendar in either portrait or landscape. Along the bottom are your basic buttons. An Eye button, Settings, Send to, Trash, and an addition icon. The eye button actually allows you to completely replace the iPhone’s default calendar with Wrook Cal because selecting it allows you to view List, Week, Day, or Month. Creating a new event in Week Cal actually adds it to your native Calendar also, so you can use both and not have to worry about data not syncing up perfectly.

One of my favorite features is the popups it provides when you tap on an event. A consequence of having every event squished onto a little screen is that they are hard to read and are often pushed into multi-line titles that are hard to even parse. Tapping on an event once will bring up a little bubble that not only displays a more readable title but the times it occurs. A small icon in the right hand corner of the bubble indicates it is a repeating event, and a blue arrow allows you to see the full event details. Holding down on an event will allow you to move it by simply dragging it to another time. All the calendar events wiggle, it is actually quite fun and allows you to organize your calendar without losing interest.

A few short weeks ago I wrote down the only con of this application is that it did not contain a month or day view, but a recent update actually added this feature. Honestly, this application has replaced my regular calendar by adding features the native application never had. Although Apple doesn’t allow third-party applications to change their icon dynamically like the default Calendar application, there is a setting to display the current day number as a badge icon. For $1.99, it is worth every penny.
Week Cal is available for $1.99 in the App Store.
