Modern Combat 2 for iPhone Has It All [Review]

If you are a fan of FPS (first person shooters) games, then Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus will definitely please you, especially if you own an iPhone 4. However, this comes with the hefty price tag of $6.99. Interested in checking out this sweet app? Keep on reading for our detailed review!

Now, if your a fan of games like Modern Combat: Sandstorm (the prequel to this game), then stop, and go buy this game now. Personally, I own both games and am a huge fan of both! This game also resembles other hit FPS games, even ones on full-fledged gaming consoles, such as Modern Warfare 2 on both PS3 and Xbox 360. Heck, even the names of the two different FPS games are similar.

Everything is very realistic, from the graphics, to the story in campaign mode, and even the guns are real guns, including the infamous AK-47 which is seen in pretty much any freaking awesome FPS game these days! If you own an iPhone 4, you’ll be happy to know that the game has retina graphics, making it even more realistic, and therefore, enhancing your experience. Playing this game will literally put you into a completely different world. Not only does it have high resolution graphics, but it also allows the iPhone 4 users to take advantage of the gyroscope in their devices as well. However, I wasn’t too happy with it, which I will get to later.

Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus

Features:

  • A new full gyro advanced control mode and QTEs have been added for even more gaming comfort.
  • Throw yourself into 12 battlefields set in the Middle-East, Eastern Europe and South America.
  • Use 15 weapons from real military forces that you can now gather directly from your enemies.
  • Blur effects when taking fire and dynamic lightning on your weapon contribute to the immersion.
  • Engage in 10-player online and local confrontations.
  • Choose between 4 multiplayer modes: Battle, Team Battle, Defuse the Bomb & Capture the Flag.

Not only does it have a great campaign (single player) mode, but it comes along with online multiplayer for endless fun with other random gamers, or friends/family, with four different game modes.

The controls are very easy to understand – if you have the gyroscope enabled, you can just tilt your iPhone around to turn, and use the joystick (left side of the screen) to move your character. The little button at the bottom left corner of the screen allows you to either crouch or stand up. To fire, you simply tap on the right side of the screen. The top left of the screen allows you to pause the game, or select music from any playlist of yours. You can find all the info you need at the top right side of the screen. It shows you how much ammo you have left, and which weapon you have out. Tapping on the icon of your gun will make your character reload the weapon.

One thing that I was very disappointed with was the gyroscope integration. It was way too sensitive, with no option to turn down the sensitivity. If I wanted to move right, I had to tilt my iPhone to the right for the entire time I was walking in that direction, rather than turning. I ended up disabling the gyroscope for the game, unfortunately.

If you disable the gyroscope, you just swipe on your iPhone’s screen to turn – swipe  left to turn left, swipe right to turn right.

All in all, I still find it to be a pretty decent game, especially once you see the amazing graphics and how fun it is. Go check out this sweet FPS game for the iPhone today for $6.99!
