Wi-fi Sync for iPhone Lets Jailbroken Users Sync Their Devices Wirelessly
We live in a time where almost all of our technology is wireless. However, if you own an iPhone, this is not the case. If you need to charge/sync your iPhone/iPod Touch, you will need a sync cable. Quite a few phones offer wireless syncing and charging, but the iOS platform does not, unfortunately. Luckily, if you are jailbroken, you will be able to get this feature, thanks to Wi-fi Sync.
Wi-fi Sync for iPhone is available in the Cydia Store for $9.99. Yes, you will need to be jailbroken to access Cydia and download this application. What is Cydia? Cydia is an not a replacement, but an add-on to the current App Store for the iPhone. It is basically a haven for applications to download that Apple would not normally allow.
Jailbreaking is now easier than ever before, and you can click here to watch my tutorial on how to do so. It literally takes thirty seconds, and you can always restore your device to factory settings if you do not like it. There are many things you should know before jailbreaking, but this article is a review of Wi-Fi Sync. I hope to write up an article with the low-down on jailbreaking soon, so you may want to watch out for that if you are clueless as to what it is.
Now, let’s get to the actual application. First up, pricing. To be honest, $9.99 is a little steep for the application. Especially once you see the UI of the actual application. There are other means to download this application for free, however, we do not support piracy at all, and you will have to find that on your own. What we do support is the developers, and that is why we will never provide information to obtain cracked content. You’ll have to find that elsewhere.
As you can see, there is no eye-candy whatsoever. In fact, this is the beauty of the application, the simplicity. Once you have set the device up with your computer, you simply open up the Wi-Fi Sync application and iTunes will automatically detect an iPhone connected to it, even if it really is not connected through a sync cable.
Setting up the application is a breeze. To get started, first head over to the developer’s website, here. You have to install the software on your computer. The software is available for both Mac OS X and Windows. Once installed, open up the Wi-Fi Sync application on your iPhone. Both devices will ask for permission to connect, and you’re good to go. Once you have it set up, all you have to do is open the application on your iPhone and iTunes will immediately recognize it. You’re good to go!
Obviously, sync over wifi will not go as fast as it would if you have it connected via a USB cable. I suggest only using it to sync a couple new songs or apps over. If you decide to sync hundreds of songs/apps over, you may experience lengthy sync times.
Overall, Wi-Fi Sync for iPhone is a great jailbroken application if you’re looking to get rid of the long white cords. It is quite steep at $9.99, however, I found it to be a excellent. Wi-Fi Sync will hold me out until Apple includes syncing over WiFi in their stock OS.
