Archetype for iPhone – An Incredible FPS with Amazing Graphics
I like to use my iPhone occasionally for gaming, when I have some spare time. Recently, I heard some good things about Archetype for iPhone, so I decided to pick it up. Archetype for iPhone contains the best graphics I have seen on a mobile device to date, and utilizes the new iPhone 4 high resolution display. Keep on reading for more details!
Archetype for iPhone is one of the many FPS games currently available in the iTunes App Store. It is one of the few apps that actually takes advantage of the iPhone 4′s high resolution display. For $2.99, you’re getting a great online-only experience (No campaign/story mode), with great graphics and it truly is a ton of fun.
I’ve actually tried quite a few FPS games on the iPhone so far, and to date, like this one the most. The only disappointment so far is the lack of campaign mode, which is featured in its rival, Nova for iPhone. However, Nova will run you an additional $2. One feature that I quite enjoy in Archetype is the ability to add friends. You can send a request to play with them whenever they are online, and it will automatically put you in the same team as well.
Now, to the actual gameplay of the application. The controls are relatively simple, and anybody can pick it up and play. They’re similar to the other FPS games available on the App Store, so anybody who has played one before should have no problem playing this. The left half of the screen controls your character’s movement, and the right half controls its aim/sight.
One thing I noticed in Archetype was that your gun automatically fires for you. You have the option to turn this off in the settings of the game, which is great. The gun will automatically fire for you as long as you have your crosshairs set on another player, whether they are an opponent or an ally. If an ally kills you three times, you have the option to kick him out of the match, or forgive him. I was impressed by this neat little implementation. This game requires an active data connection, either 3G or WiFi. When you go online, you can watch a few tutorials to get the hang of the game, train, or play team deathmatch. The gunfire sounds/effects are crisp, and if you’re using an iPhone 4, you will really enjoy the game even more than you would on a normal screen.
Overall, Archetype for iPhone is a great FPS for the iPhone, and my personal favorite. Although it does not have a campaign mode for offline gaming, it is still worth the price tag. You can pick it up today for $2.99 and enjoy some high quality shooting action either online or with yours friends (or both!). Definitely take a look at this great app in the iTunes App Store.
