5 Awesome iPad Apps You Did Not Know about

I know the iPhone 4 is out and all, and talking about the iPad is so May 2009, but I am having the best time with my iPad, I just had to share some of the apps I have recently found. I already wrote about my top 8 apps here, but those are all pretty well known apps, and after two weeks with the iPad, I have found some true gems that most people have never heard of, so here goes.

Is iPhone 4/iPad Bringing An Android Problem to iOS?

Is iPhone 4/iPad Bringing An Android Problem to iOS?

So, Apple launched the iPhone 4 last week and rumor has it, they sold over a million and a half handsets so far. That has to be some kind of record. Anyone who has been following the developments since the iPhone 4 started shipping is well aware of the issues people are having. Whether it is the stains on the screen or the reception issues, Apple might have some answering to do and I don’t mean telling people that they are holding their phones wrong.

Geode Communicator is a New Way to Keep in Touch

With advances in technology, we’ve been introduced to new ways to communicate. Letters, phone calls, voicemail, email and texting are just some examples of the technology we use to keep in touch with others. In today’s world, it’s all about speed which makes texting so popular. Writing quick, short messages which are received almost instantly are perfect for today’s racing world. Nevertheless, sometimes even texting can be too slow or not detailed enough to get the point across. You could be in a hurry and need to tell something you’re going to be a little late. You need a quick, simple message to send in a few clicks.

Google Voicemail on your iPhone

Google Voicemail on your iPhone

Essentially what this application does is provide push-notifications and a playback application for Google voicemails, by forwarding your voicemail notifications to a secret email provided by the company. It works incredibly well and I rely on it for my day-to-day use of my office number. I give it my full backing!

iOS 4.0 Feature Quicklook: File Management

iOS 4.0 Feature Quicklook: File Management

For the longest time I publicly criticized Apple’s amazing mobile OS for not allowing users to manage files. Apparently, Apple has decided to add a feature in iOS 4.0 that does that, to a point. Let me explain how Apple’s approach to file management is not just what I expected but beyond my expectations. First, let’s take a journey back to pre-OS 4.0 where the only way to download email attachments was through a word processing application (Documents To Go, to name one), which allowed you to view your inbox and download attachments. Functional? Yes. Convenient? No way.

How iPhone 4 Will Affect foursquare and Location-Based Apps

How iPhone 4 Will Affect foursquare and Location-Based Apps

Before I begin, I would just like to say that when deciding on the topic of this post, I was faced with too many options. With the new iPhone 4 shipping, I could also play it safe and talk about that. There was always the 3 million iPads sold in 80 days story, or I could have talked about the new demo of Windows phone 7. There were the new features of Google Maps for Android and there was the Meego announcement by Nokia.

Top 3 Apps for Bloggers

Top 3 Apps for Bloggers

As a personal blogger, a professional blogger, and as someone who just keeps coming up with new ideas for fun ways to share and display content online, I’ve found that there are three iPhone apps that I absolutely can not live without: DomainTyper, GoDaddy, and WordPress. These probably sound pretty obvious, especially since a large number of online publishers check new domain ideas on GoDaddy, and a lot of bloggers are using Wordpress to publish their content. Here’s why I think these three will take you from blogger to Blogger in three easy taps.

Perspective on Mobile from an Open Source Advocate

Perspective on Mobile from an Open Source Advocate

It’s no secret that the mobile space is booming and that the future of computing is largely in compact devices. From mobile apps to the mobile web, developers are seeing the potential and the industry is charging ahead. Where it gets difficult is when you are an expert in a programming language that doesn’t work natively on a device, for example JavaScript and the iPhone.

The PhoneGap project was started a few years back as an answer to that problem. I had a chance to get this interview with Brock Whitten, one of the co-founders of the project, who also happens to be my brother in law. Here are some of his thoughts on the mobile space today and in the future.

8 Best iPad Apps (Free and Paid)

8 Best iPad Apps (Free and Paid)

It has been three months since Apple released their game-changing tablet device and it is almost universally accepted now that it was a successful launch. The last numbers we read were after two months and Apple had claimed to sell over two million iPads. It is now a month later and something tells me their a million a month sales have not slowed down.
