PictureBooth Brings the Photobooth for Mac Experience To Your iPhone
If you’ve ever owned a mac, you’re probably familiar with an amazing program (for macs only) called Photobooth. PictureBooth for the iPhone provides a similar experience, for $1.99, and does an extremely well job.

PictureBooth was developed by an amazing developer, moodspin. They’ve cleverly implemented many of the effects found in Photobooth into their own app for the iPhone, PictureBooth. Although it does not provide the special effects, such as cartoon, glow, etc., it still does a great job, for a mobile phone. It features nine cool effects that you may recognize, including the following:
- Fisheye
- Stretch
- Mirror
- Bulge
- Dent
- Squeeze
- Twirl
- Light Tunnel
Out of all the camera/photography applications I have used (for the iPhone), this seems to stand out, mostly due to it’s additional features. It allows you to edit a photo on the fly and share it with your friends through email, facebook, or twitter, which is very useful. I, personally, use it to upload goofy pictures of my friends on facebook.
This wonderful application works on any iPhone, but not on an iPod Touch, because it does not have a camera (yet). Even if you don’t want to edit a photo, you can still use this application to share via email, facebook, or twitter.
Adding an effect is a cinch. You point your iPhone at whatever you’d like to take a picture of and edit, choose the effect, how much of the effect you want to apply (there is a sliding bar which lets you toggle however much you’d like), and simply tap the camera icon. The photo will be taken, with the effect, and saved to your camera roll to enjoy later.
This application is extremely basic, which, in this case, is good for the end user. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out how to get started with the application, which is great! Again, you point at what you want, choose the effect, and tap the camera button. It’s really as simple as that.
The one thing I hope to see in the future is the ability to edit pictures that are already in our camera roll. There’s no other cons to the app, it’s that great.
There isn’t much else to the application. Here’s a quick video demo of it in action, courtesy of the dev, Moodspin.
In a nutshell, PictureBooth for the iPhone is a definite hit, and is worth the $1.99, considering everything it can do. It lets you easily take and edit pictures on the fly with your beloved iPhone, and is truly worth a look!
