Top 8 Mobile Trends of 2010

Top 8 Mobile Trends of 2010

As a person who spends a lot of his time on Twitter (follow me here), I read about all the latest rumors circulating the Web. However, while there are always rumors about the next big thing, since the beginning of the new decade, things are really starting to heat up. Where do I start? The Apple Tablet, Microsoft’s iPhone killer, the iPhone 4.0, Google’s plans for Android, the list doesn’t end. I tried to make a little sense of the endless rumors and see if they all fall under certain categories. Seems like there are some very clear trends forming and a lot is going to change in 2010.

Unblock Me for iPhone Will Keep you Busy for Hours

Unblock Me for iPhone Will Keep you Busy for Hours

The iPhone App Store is overflowing with games. There are endless types of games, such as puzzles, arcade, mind games, shooting games, etc. However, out of the many games I have tried, there are really a few that stick out in their level of entertainment they provide. Unblock Me for iPhone is one such game.

Who’s Excited About iPhone 4.0?

Who’s Excited About iPhone 4.0?

It’s that time of the year again! The rumors about the next iPhone are all over the place. Let’s do a short summary of what we know or think we know about the Apple announcement that is supposed to take place on Wednesday January 27th. According to Boy Genius Report, the new iPhone will have multi touch across the entire platform. I am not exactly sure what that means besides the fact that you will be able to pinch zoom for example in the Settings screen and not only in pictures and the browser. Other enhancements include improved UI, which will make navigating the iPhone more efficient, even though to me it seems pretty darn efficient now. It will also include some sort of new and improved syncing ability, and will be available for the iPhone 3G and 3Gs, which will supposedly give them a big edge in the smartphone market.

Space Frenzy for iPhone – Good Attempt, Not Quite There Yet

Space Frenzy for iPhone – Good Attempt, Not Quite There Yet

By: Aaron We now live in an era in which even young men, such as Alex Britton (the developer of Space Frenzy), are coding. Most of them code for Apple, creating creative iPhone Apps in the well-known iTunes App Store. This is one of Alex Britton’s latest applications, called Space Frenzy!, which is available for [...]

Two Android Apps that Apple Would Never Approve

Two Android Apps that Apple Would Never Approve

I always get a kick out of Android apps that would never be a approved by Apple if it was an iPhone app. There are many such apps on my Android device but two primary apps really stick out. The first is a paid app called Better Keyboard. I am pretty sure the developer of this app did not have a very large marketing budget if I am judging by the amount of creativity in its name. I mean “Better Keyboard”? They couldn’t come with a better name? On second thought, what am I complaining about? Who cares about the name? The app rocks.

SugarSync for Android Will Finally Allow you to Sync your Files

SugarSync for Android Will Finally Allow you to Sync your Files

One of my major beefs with the Android platform is the lack of an iTunes-like solution. If you would have asked me a week ago what my biggest issue what Android was, I would have said the keyboard. However, thanks to some almost anonymous developer (no website, no Twitter account, the man does not exist), I replaced the device’s keyboard with an alternative one. For me, this just became Android’s biggest advantage. Can you imagine Apple allowing a different keyboard app in the App Store? Yea, that would never happen, but with Android, which is open, the sky is the limit.

Can Shooter for iPhone: So Close Yet So Far

Can Shooter for iPhone: So Close Yet So Far

It is not an easy task to make a successful mobile app. I do not mean the actual development side of things, I am referring more to the conceptual aspects. First, it all starts with a good idea. If you think coming up with a good idea is easy, you are very wrong. For every one good app in the App Store, there are probably close to twenty that you have, and never will hear of. Once you come up with a great idea (it has to be great, in today’s day and age, “Good” just doesn’t cut it), there is the interface, the experience, and the implementation you need to worry about.

Twidroid Sets Some Record Numbers

Twidroid Sets Some Record Numbers

Putting aside the whole Android vs iPhone debate, there is no denying that Android is taking off in popularity thanks to phones like the Droid and Nexus One. For me, one of my biggest complaints about the iPhone platform, and I am not alone here, is the lack of background apps. I mean in all honesty, what kind of heavy mobile user can work efficiently with a maximum of one app running at a time?

Spin Doctor Revives a Classic Game

Spin Doctor Revives a Classic Game

There’s something I still love about old classic games. Any day, I can sit down and play a long game of Tetris or Pac-man. Maybe it’s because it brings back childhood memories. Maybe I love the simplicity of the games with three buttons instead of nineteen buttons on an Xbox controller (don’t get me wrong, I still love a game of Halo or MW2). Whatever it is, I have a soft spot for classic games in my heart. So, when I reviewed the game Spin Doctor, I was pleasantly delighted to see a classic game revamped into a fun, well developed iPhone app.
