43Things is the Solution for Unsuccessful New Year’s Resolutions
By: @Joel_Appboy
With the New Year, comes New Year’s resolutions. The resolutions are predictable: lose weight, find true love, quit smoking or something along those lines. The idea of these resolutions are wonderful. Who wouldn’t want to get in shape and lose old habits? The problem arises when it comes to actually doing the goal. You might keep the goal for a day or two, maybe a few weeks at most but soon you’ll put it off. “Ah, I’ll just skip today and do it tomorrow.” This happens the next day and the next day until your resolution has been forgotten.
43Things just might be the app to solve this problem. 43Things is a simpler version of the original website. It’s a very popular “online goal setting community” with over a million users. You start by simply adding your goals to the “I’m Doing..” list. They don’t have to just be resolutions, they can be short-term or even life goals.

If you’re having trouble coming up with ideas simply visit the website and see what other people are doing. You can find the top ten New Year’s Resolutions or view a cool list of some random things. You’ll find a variety of creative things from “Build a rammed earth house and take up permaculture gardening” to “Have 2 weeks worth of meals in the freezer for ‘no shopping’ weeks”

Once you have a good list of goals (maybe even 43) you can track your goals and write entries about your progress. Write down any thoughts, ideas or problems with the goals and motivate yourself to complete it. Exclusive to the iPhone app is the ability to attach photos to your entries. You also have a “progress bar” which you can slide any where from 0 to 100% and finally a satisfying big box to check when the goal has been completed. Need more motivation? Take a look at a list of things you’ve completed to view all your good work.

You probably aren’t going to spend hours on 43Things but it might become your most productive app. It’s a simple app with a big idea to help accomplish your goals. Besides, unless your goal is “spend more time on my iPhone”, you should be trying to accomplish your goals and not be on the app. Although it’s also a good thing, the simplicity of the app might also be it’s downfall. There’s still so much they could add, some of which they already have on their original website. The ability to “cheer” on people who inspire you, to see other’s goals and add them to your own list and the option to set deadlines for your goals. Hopefully, this will all be available in the next update. Time to go check off one of my goals: finish 43Things app review.
