When I think BlackBerry, I think email. Most people who use BlackBerrys as their primary mobile device need to get their emails as fast as possible. So my BlackBerry notifies me of every incoming email and my first instinct is to pick it up and read the email. I mean, why else would I need a BlackBerry if I cannot read the email as it arrives, right?

Pretty big news today for BlackBerry users. Nimbuzz, one of the top providers for IM/VOIP apps on all mobile platforms has taken the leap into the BlackBerry App World. Why is this such big news? Well for starters, the app is great, and allows you to instant message with your contacts on basically any and every network out there. The protocols the new Nimbuzz app supports are AIM, MSN, Gtalk, Facebook, Skype, and Yahoo Messenger. Not enough? OK. ICQ, Gadu-Gadu, StudiVZ, Giovani, Hyves, and more. The app is designed very well, and besides the relatively extended boot time, seemed to work flawlessly.

What seems to be happening is that every app in the App Store has at least one competing app, which gives consumers a choice. It is no secret that Google, the little startup that was once a simple search engine, is branching out into new fields every day. In fact, one can argue that pretty soon, you will not need anything on your home PC besides Google applications. There is Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Reader, Gtalk, Chrome, Chrome OS, Android, and the list goes on. On one hand, Google has done a great job covering all of our computing needs, on the other, it has gotten to the point that while these products offer us great convenience, they also are the cause of some concern.
