Beejive 2.0 for BlackBerry is Everything An App Should Be

Beejive 2.0 for BlackBerry is Everything An App Should Be

I have tried and reviewed many IM apps in my day, some better than others, some with the basic IM features only, and others with VOIP capabilities. When I first heard that Beejive 2.0 for BlackBerry was released, I have to be honest, I did not run to install it, nor was I particularly excited about this announcement. However, when I did finally install the app, all that changed. The app in its entirety is actually very exciting both in terms of its capabilities, its easy to use interface, and its convenient and useful features.

Wine Ratings Guide for iPhone Puts A Million Wines at your Fingertips

As managing partner of a leading wine video blog, I try to make wine approachable to everyone. Wine used to be for a certain class of people, now it is for everyone. The days of wearing a suit and tie or even a bow-tie while sipping a glass of wine are in the past. A perfect example is the app I am reviewing today, The Wine Ratings Guide for the iPhone/iPod Touch. I have been playing around with it and this is what I have found.

Bouncedown for iPhone Provides Pure and Simple Entertainment

Bouncedown for iPhone Provides Pure and Simple Entertainment

What is amazing about the iPhone platform, among many other things, is that it completely transformed a person like me, who, out of choice, never had an Atari or Nintendo growing up, into a full fledged gaming addict. As I was looking over my recent reviews, I was completely shocked to find that the majority of them are for games.

Huge! Best Buy Partners with Appboy for Mobile Apps

This is a pretty big deal. Best Buy recently launched a new website called Best Buy Mobile, in which you can find any and all kinds of information pertaining to the mobile industry. The site has one of the cooler designs I have seen with the entire page designed like a mobile phone. There are tabs for all the different types of content, such as news, reviews, videos, social, and of course apps.

Actionz for iPhone Definitely Supplies the Action

Actionz for iPhone Definitely Supplies the Action

The question among mobile developers, if I am judging by the apps I see on a daily basis, seems to be who can make the most complicated and confusing app. What they should be asking is who can make the simplest app? If you look through the top apps downloaded in the App Store, you will find that at least 75% of them are ultra simplistic.

RocketBird for iPhone Will Get You and Your Friends Smiling

When first testing out a new app, I generally know within seconds whether this is going to be an app that will be god enough to deserve a spot on my very valuable screen space. Then there are some apps that take a little longer, but generally speaking, if you are a developer, make sure your app is easy enough to understand within seconds, otherwise, most users will just delete it and look for a competing app among the large selection.

Featured Developer: Zincroe Games with their Apps that Will Make Your Kids Smile

This week’s featured developer is zincRoeGames from Toronto. They are fundamentally different than most developers I have worked with, for one primary reason. They develop apps that target kids, and judging from my personal experience with having my children test out each one of their apps, they do a great job at it. Two of my kids’ favorites were Sound Shaker and Count Daddy, two great apps that incorporate many of the iPhone’s features to provide kids with a rich, fun, and at the same time educational experience. Here is the interview I conducted with Luke Lutman from zincRoe.

Traffic Rush for iPhone: Beware of Extreme Addiction

Traffic Rush for iPhone: Beware of Extreme Addiction

I went through my iPod Touch today and deleted a nice amount of apps. Most of them were games. So how did I decide what to keep and what to delete? Pretty simple actually. Any game that I opened and after 45 seconds of playing around, looking for a tutorial, and just trying to understand the app, I still did not get it, was deleted.

Bolt 1.6 for BlackBerry is Out and Here to Stay (On My Berry)

Bolt 1.6 for BlackBerry is Out and Here to Stay (On My Berry)

It is no secret that where iPhone and Android have BlackBerry beat is in the browser war. The BlackBerry default browser is hands down the biggest complaint I have about my Berry (then comes the camera). However, today, all that changes. Bolt just released their new version 1.6, and it is fast, accurate, and best of all, it completely replaces the BlackBerry native browser.

Android Advanced Task Killer Should Be The First App you Install

Android Advanced Task Killer Should Be The First App you Install

So, I started using Google’s famous Android mobile operating system a few days ago, and while I have a lot of feedback and questions for Google, there are some aspects of Android that really stick out. I apologize for mentioning the “I” word so early on in a post that is supposed to be about Android, but one of the main advantages Android has over iPhone is background apps. While this is true and the iPhone, at least in its non jail broken state cannot run multiple apps simultaneously, when it comes to the way both platforms run apps, I actually prefer the iPhone over Android.
