Fake-Call Me for Android is Perfect for Awkward Encounters
By: Hillel Fuld
There are many reasons a person would download an app for their phone. There is what seems to be the most popular reason, which is that the app provides entertainment in the form of a game or puzzle. There are utility apps that enhance your productivity and there are social apps that enable you to stay connected. Then there are apps like Fake-Call Me, which are just so funny, that you just feel a need to try it out.
Fake-Call Me is an app on the Android Market that enables you to schedule a time at which your phone will ring and the caller ID will display a person of your choice. What is this good for? I can think of many scenarios, but the intention of the developer was to bail you out of awkward conversations by having your phone ring. This is the kind of app you do not know if you will ever need, but if you do, you will be happy you took the time to install it.
In terms of the app itself, it is all pretty simple and clear. You have the main interface, which has a field for the name of the person you want to appear on the screen when the phone rings. The default is The President, so chances are you are going to want to change that. Then there is the phone number, which is by default a 1-800 number, so if you want the person to believe this stunt, you are going to want to change that too.
The next option is the When To Call area. You can define when the phone will ring, so if you are about to bump into your X (assuming this is something you do not want), you can set the phone to ring in 5 seconds. The other times include 15 seconds all the way to 5 minutes. There is also a Customize option to actually set the phone to ring at a certain time, assuming you know you have a meeting tomorrow morning that you need to be bailed out of at a certain time. Very useful. I also discovered that when the app is open, you can press the Camera key to have the phone ring immediately. I guess that is for the unexpected awkward encounter.

When you press the phone’s Options button, you are presented with a few different possibilities including Settings, Pro Version (I tested out the free version), Share (email or Twitter), Feedback, News, and About. The Pro version, which costs $0.99, includes a few major enhancements such as choosing a contact from your phone’s phone book, which enables a photo and ringtone based on your predefined settings. It also plays audio after the phone call is answered and enters the call into your call log. Lastly, the Pro version enables you to schedule multiple calls, so you can pretend you don’t want to answer, but if they’re calling so many times, it must be urgent.
Like I said, pretty sure you wont use this app on a daily basis, but when you do need the app, you will want it to be there for you.
