Bouncedown for iPhone Provides Pure and Simple Entertainment
By: Hillel Fuld
What is amazing about the iPhone platform, among many other things, is that it completely transformed a person like me, who, out of choice, never had an Atari or Nintendo growing up, into a full fledged gaming addict. As I was looking over my recent reviews, I was completely shocked to find that the majority of them are of games.
Gaming on the iPhone platform in my opinion is like no other experience, and it is just one of the many industries this one device has revolutionized. Bouncedown for iPhone is the kinda app I would never even try on another platform, but being as it was in the App Store’s Top Games category, and I have learned how amusing iPhone games can be, I downloaded it, and let me tell you, I am happy I did.
This game is definitely going to go on my Addictive Games home screen (kidding, I am not that organized). It is a truly entertaining game and incorporates advanced technology, fun music, and pure entertainment.
The object of Bouncedown is to continue to bounce down from platform to platform as they move upwards toward spikes on the top of the display. You need to avoid the spikes, but make sure not to fall down into the furnace. Pretty simple, right? Wrong!
The platforms are constantly moving and each type of platform does something else. There is the normal platform that just moves upward, the “Bouncey Platform” (the app says Bouney Platform. Typo?) which bounces you up and down, the Moving Platform, which shoots you off the platform in the direction of the arrow, the Growth platform, which makes you expand, the Shrink platform, which does the opposite, and the Cloudy platform, which basically vanishes as soon as you land on it.
The game is extremely fast paced and the fun music adds to the entertainment. The app also allows you to select your method of moving. You can either use your finger to move the little bouncing guy, or make use of the device’s accelerometer, which I found to be less effective, or lastly, you can do this sort of tracking action that makes the little dude follow wherever you touch on the screen. I found the regular touch to be the best method, but that’s just me.
The app also has the ability to connect to Facebook and post your results for your friends to see, but never really got that, I mean, do your friends want to know how you scored on Bouncedown? Mine don’t, but at least it does not tweet our results automatically like other apps I have seen. You can also give yourself a name and enter the global scoreboard in which you can see high scores.
That pretty much sums up Bouncedown for iPhone. This game is a definite keeper, but at this rate, I am going to break some kind of record with how many home screens my iPod Touch is going to have. The developer did a great job with this app since it is the perfect balance of technology, entertainment, and simplicity.
