Snaptu Will Make iPhone Users Want A BlackBerry
By: Hillel Fuld
One of the main issues I have with my BlackBerry Bold is its small amount of application memory. What this means for me is that the vast majority of apps that I download, are deleted within 24 hours. I download them, check them out, and if they are not exciting to me, I delete them. Not only did I not delete Snaptu, but I put it on my main home screen, and use it daily. It completely changed the way I use the mobile Web on my BlackBerry.

Before I go into details about Snaptu and what it does, let me just mention that Snaptu works on all Java enabled mobile phones, which means you can use it on almost any device out there, except of course one that comes to mind (Ahem, Apple). I have tried it on an old Nokia, a Samsung F480, an N95, and now my Berry, and it worked well on all of them.

So what is Snaptu? It is an app that gives you pretty much anything you would ever need to open the Web for, in a widget-like environment, that offers you huge icons, a fun UI, and access to tons of online resources. To name a few of the features offered by Snaptu, there is a very user friendly Facebook client, a full fledged Twitter client, which is close to competing with the best Twitter client for BlackBerry, since it now includes groups. There is a very easy to use RSS reader with the ability to easily share articles you are reading, on Twitter or Facebook. There is a weather application that enables you to stay updated on weather across the globe, and much much more.

Snaptu has approximately 30 or so different applications to add to your home screen. You can then access those application/websites in one click. The interface moves in a very iPhone-like manner, which might not make sense to you now, but try it out and you will immediately understand what I am talking about.

I can really go on for a very long time about Snaptu and its brilliant features, such as the ability to easily add RSS feeds from any website with a simple URL, or the speed at which the app responds to your click and immediately opens the application or website you selected. Other applications available within Snaptu include Flickr, Picasa, a dictionary, TV guide, Google Calendar and home page, MySpace, Yahoo, Last.fm, Wikipedia, eBay, Gmail, ESPN, and the list just keeps going on and on.

The amazing thing about this app is that it enables users with less advanced phones as well as smartphones to bypass their annoying Web browser, and access all the content easily and quickly within Snaptu. Like I said, this app completely changed the way I access the Web on my BlackBerry. I barely ever open the browser now, and I have deleted Opera and Bolt, since I no longer need them.

All of my favorites are saved as links within Snaptu and I access them on the go, easily share them on Twitter with one click, and then watch the retweet count rise in the Snaptu Twitter client.
There are some bugs/issues I have experienced, specifically with the Twitter client, such as a missing character count, and the group feature not working properly, but all in all, this is among my top 10 mobile apps across multiple platforms. In fact, the major complaints heard from most BlackBerry users about the BlackBerry browser is no longer an issue, making the BlackBerry a much more attractive option for smartphone users.

Umm, Exactly why is this cheep knock off app better than the iPhone?
Black Bury is dead in the water.
The only competition to the iPhone is a Google OS phone(s), and that has years to catch up.
Sorry, with Google’s money behind the project, Apple may have some “Sp_lainin’ to do”( BTW, How would Ricky write that? ) to the share holders.
For now iPhone rules with ” there’s an app for that “.
Other than porn, do a search, and tell us what is missing, Please! We’ll make an app for that!
Best Regards,
Michael Lee
BTW: Don’t bother with a flame war, I linked from another article
and will never see the responses.
