Cardio Trainer for Android: A Comprehensive Workout App
By: Alon Schwarts
Last week I decided to start working on my fitness. After I finished downloading the right music to my phone, I wanted to find an app that will help me measure how much I walk.
After looking in the Android market, I found this cool app – Cardio Trainer, by WorkSmart Labs, which really surprised me with all its capabilities.
The CardioTrainer is a GPS-based workout tracking application which records your workouts, including: steps, distance, pace, calories burnt and of course your track. You can see your real-time position on a map and your exact route (via Google maps). It also tracks your workouts and keeps a record, syncing with a facebook app and a website in which you can follow your workouts on your PC screen and view various statistics of your workouts. The Facebook app also enables you to broadcast your workouts to your friends via news feed.
This is only the basic functionality of the cardio trainer. It is very comprehensive, and offers a wide verity of tools.
Record your workout (Free)
You can define the type of workout – indoor or outdoor, and the specific training: walking, running, kayaking rollerblading, snowboarding, etc.
Assuming that looking at the screen while running might be a bit of a problem, there is an option for voice output options that will update you while working out: you can set notification based time intervals, distance, and even calories. The notifications will work even while listening to music on your phone (you can choose the soundtrack that will accompany your workout).

You can also use two paid features:
1. Weight Loss Trainer: This module targets users who are trying to lose weight and get in shape.
You can set your goals for losing weight, and plan your training cycle (on which days will you train for example) and you’re good to go ! From now, the app will record and display your record, and give you instructions (for example: how many calories you should reduce from your daily menu).

2. Race against yourself: The second feature allows you to actually race against yourself. You can select one of your previous tracks and try to beat your best time. During workout you will hear a voice telling you whether you’re behind or ahead of your past results. This will encourage you to beat your past self and constantly improve your results.

Conclusion: Cardio trainer is a great app for anyone who does walking, running, cycling or any other activity. It’s very comprehensive and offers a lot of possibilities, while using a slick design and a great user experience. The basic workout app is free. This app might motivate you to stop sitting around downloading apps and actually go out for a job. Yes, it’s just that good!
