WorldMate for iPhone: Do Not Leave Home Without It
By: Hillel Fuld
It is no secret that the iPhone has changed and revolutionized the mobile world unlike any cellular device that preceded it. This is true about its user interface, its simplicity, and its popularity. However, the iPhone has forced the mobile world to evolve mostly in the software space. As soon as Apple announced their App Store, suddenly all the other big companies have one too. I am pretty sure Nokia had one before, but it was not anywhere near the level of the current experience.

In addition to the way apps are now offered, Apple also revolutionized the mobile industry with the quantity as well as quality of the apps being offered. Some iPhone apps can blow your mind with the features they offer. Some games that make use of the accelerometer for example, offer a gaming experience unlike any other. Other apps are completely futuristic and manage to amaze me every time I use them, WorldMate is one of those apps.
WorldMate is an app I would highly recommend any traveler use, it is a crucial travel companion that takes all your traveling needs into account and accommodates them. Not only that, but the app does all of this in a very sleek and easy to use interface. WorldMate for iPhone (it is available for other mobile platforms as well, including BlackBerry), comes in two versions, a free one as well as the Gold version, which costs $19.99. Might seem a little costly to you now, but it will only take you one time that you caught a flight thanks to WorldMate, and you will agree, it is very worth the investment.

Now to get into some of the features offered by WorldMate… The app allows you to forward your confirmations from the airlines, rental car companies, as well as the hotels you booked, and it automatically syncs them with the iPhone app, displaying them as an itinerary. WorldMate also monitors the status of your flights with over 350 different global airlines. If your flight is delayed, WorldMate uses the iPhone’s new push technology to notify you of the delay, while offering you the ability to book a hotel reservation from within the app.

WorldMate is extremely feature packed, so I am not going to go into detail on every one of its features, but here are some of the other awesome features available in WorldMate:
- Smart Hotel Search with Hotels.com
- Weather Forecast
- Currency Converter
- Built in maps and directions
- World Clocks
- Itinerary Sharing
- Online Trip Planner
- Customer Support
OK, I think you get the point, WorldMate is a must have if you are traveling. It is the kind of app that once you use it, will have you asking “What did I do before WorldMate?”
