Flyscreen for Android Wakes up Your Lock Screen

By: Hillel Fuld

To shake things up a little, I thought we would do a review of an Android app today. We will be doing more Android reviews in the near future, but this is our first. Flyscreen is a lightweight app that enables you to get some use out of your Android device, while it is on the lock screen. The guys who designed this thought to themselves “Why let all that space go to waste?”

So basically, when the phone is locked, you can view, scroll, and read widgets that can be set and customized from the flyscreen website.

The UI of Flyscreen is very sleek and smooth, enabling you to easily scroll between articles within one widget or swipe your finger to the side in order to view another one of your predefined widgets.

In addition to the basic functionality, Flyscreen’s newest Android version includes some impressive features such as support for Facebook comments and “likes”, tagging articles to be viewed later, sharing articles you encounter on your Flyscreen with your followers/friends, an integrated Google search, which saves you the time and effort involved in opening a mobile browser, as well as the ability to expand every widget to a full screen view.

The lock screen remains locked while you are viewing your select content, and only after a double tap on the screen will it unlock completely, enabling you to click through and view the article online. This is the kind of app that makes people want to go open OS as opposed to Apple. Flyscreen gives you the ability to completely change the functionality of the lock screen from a dead and useless screen, to a full fledged widget-based interface, enabling you to skip over the mobile browsing experience in 90% of cases.

Like I said, the UI is gorgeous and intuitive, giving you all these features at a finger’s touch. From my tests, Flyscreen neither uses large amounts of data or battery, making it a must have addition to your Android device.
