Name My Tune! for iPhone Will Keep you Nice and Occupied

Name My Tune! for iPhone Will Keep you Nice and Occupied

With the 100,000 apps in the App Store, there is pretty much an app for anything, in fact, some even have two of the same exact app. That seems to be the case with Name My Tune and Name My Tunes (can’t make this stuff up). I did not try out the competition, but Name My Tune is a fun and simple app. If you cannot figure it out from the name, the app plays you a song from your library, gives you the option to guess the song, and grades you according to your success.

Beck’s Gig Finder for iPhone Keeps You Updated and Partying

I still get a kick out of it every time I hear about a big company that has absolutely nothing to do with the mobile space releasing an iPhone app. There is of course Starbucks, Pepsi’s attempt, and now the beverage company that makes Beck’s beer. The name of the app is Gig Finder and it is the most feature packed iPhone app to find concerts and other music events available in the App Store for free.

The Evolution of the Mobile Industry

The Evolution of the Mobile Industry

If you have been paying attention or even if you have not, you have undoubtedly heard the mobile app topic discussed in one context or another. The mobile industry made a complete 180 degree turn when it comes to what is deemed important to consumers in the mobile space.

Reebok Joins the Long List of Corporations with iPhone Apps

Reebok has joined forces with Digital design studio ustwo™ in collaboration with leading mobile marketing agency Inside Mobile to develop an iPhone app that offers consumers exclusive promotions on Reebok merchandise. The name of the game is iSprint and it is available in the App Store for free. iSprint turns your iPhone/iPod Touch into a 100 meter racetrack, offering you the ability to race against the game or to pair the device via bluetooth with another iPhone, and race against a friend. This is actually one of the first iPhone apps to offer such a feature.

Fling: A Highly Addictive and Enjoyable Game for iPhone

Fling: A Highly Addictive and Enjoyable Game for iPhone

One of the angles Apple took when marketing the iPod Touch and the iPhone was its gaming capabilities. Truth be told, I have tried many portable gaming consoles, and between the accelerometer and its high resolution display, the iPod and iPhone really revolutionized portable gaming. However, I do not spend much time downloading or playing games on the iPod, mainly because I find most of the games I encounter to be annoying.

Ping! is The Future of Messaging on the iPhone

Ping! is The Future of Messaging on the iPhone

With the release of Ping! it looks like RIM’s Blackberry has nothing that the Apple iPhone hasn’t got! Ping!, which has been available in the App Store since the beginning of October, is an iPhone-to-iPhone messaging system equivalent to BBM (Blackberry Messenger). It is based on Apple Push Notification Service which uses push technology to forward notifications from 3rd party servers to iPhone or iPod touch connected to the internet (Check out Nimbuzz for another great use of Push Notification).

UberTwitter: The Best BlackBerry Twitter Client, Hands Down!

UberTwitter: The Best BlackBerry Twitter Client, Hands Down!

Before I started using a BlackBerry as my primary mobile device, I was using a basic Samsung for my phone calls and an iPod Touch for my social and Web related needs. I was using TwitterFon (now known as Echofon) as my primary Twitter client (ahem, you can follow me here), and I loved it (still do). When I unboxed my new Bold, one of the first things I downloaded was a Twitter client, which at the time, happened to have been TwitterBerry, based on what my friends were using. That did not go well.

Every industry has its dominant companies. The auto industry has Ford and Toyota, the consumer electronics industry has Sony and Panasonic, the mobile industry has Apple and Nokia, and the mobile app development world has Shape Services. Shape have made a name for themselves as a market leader with their wide portfolio of killer apps, with the flagship one being IM+.

3D Checkers for iPhone Reminds Me of The Good Old Days

3D Checkers for iPhone Reminds Me of The Good Old Days

I have to admit, I am not much of a gamer myself, and this is primarily for two reasons. The first reason is just my preference, I prefer a good social app or a time saving utility on my phone over a good game any day… The other reason is that they just don’t make games like they used to. Who doesn’t remember the simplicity and pure fun offered by the Atari games back in the 80s? The new games are just so sophisticated and feature packed that they are missing the easiness of just turning on your phone, intuitively knowing what to do, and starting a game.

WordPress for BlackBerry Gets The Job Done

WordPress for BlackBerry Gets The Job Done

One of the main trademarks of RIM and its BlackBerrys are their famous QWERTY keyboards. I am not going to take sides in the iPhone vs. BlackBerry debate, but I will say that with phones like the BlackBerry Bold and Tour, and their fantastic keyboards, anything you can write out on your desktop, you should be able to write on your mobile device as well. This is true about Word documents, emails, and now, blog posts.
